Naturopathic Medicine is defined by its philosophy that favors a holistic approach and seeks to find the least invasive measures necessary for symptom improvement or resolution, thus encouraging minimal use of unnecessary drugs or supplements. According to the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges, "Naturopathic medicine is defined by principles rather than by methods or modalities. Above all, it honors the body's innate wisdom to heal."

Homeopathic Medicine is defined an form of alternative medicine that uses very small amounts of natural substances, which in higher amounts would cause a disease. The theory behind homeopathic medicine is that "like cures like," and that a substance that causes an illness in a healthy person might cure those symptoms in someone who is ill.
